Map updates

NOTE: there is not a post about every gallery — the Map Updates post category shows new updates and not necessarily all of those. There are hundreds of FLAGs with no corresponding post. To see if there’s one near you check the map.

FLAG at Gateway Art Center

Gateway Arts Center, Brentwood, MD

Part of an “Art Magnet” initiative that I hope sticks, the Operation ARTS Foundation has a project to create Free Little Art Galleries at various points around town, concentrating on high traffic areas. One of these is at the Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood. More pictures here. The administrator writes: “Art M.A.G.N.E.T.” is a public art project created by Operation ARTS Foundation to encourage creative community interaction through art! Port Austin, Michigan

This new, brightly painted gallery along a coastal road is ready for your art. If you live in the area, stop by — if not, check with curator Deborah Maxwell before sending art by mail. I sent a few magnets… Based on the Instagram account name — @freelittleartgallery_thumbmi/ — there is something to do with thumbs here? It is a mystery. But we can live with mysteries. Louisa, Virginia

Opening today, the Free Little Art Gallery at the Louisa Art Center is the first we know of in its town.

Mutlangen, Germany

This handy-looking fellow is considering what he’ll paint to put into the FLAG at Laura’s Nest in Mutlangen, Germany (@flag_at_laurasnest). Someday I’d love to visit! Welcome to the FLAG community, curator Anja Schubert!

FLURN, Portland, Oregon

Recently opened in PORTLAND, the mysteriously-named GALLERY FLURN (@thegalleryflurn ) casts a jolly, winter-combating glow. If you live nearby or are passing through, please stop by to acquire or deposit the arts. I like the wide-format, prop-openable design, and is that a planter on top?

Pec’s Perk, Blanchardville WI

This is a seasonal gallery, containing art when the weather is too cold to sell ice cream. Because the gallery is actually an ice cream case. Okay? Why not? If you’re not sure whether the gallery is open, you could just go there anyway because, look, ice cream! It’s what they call a “win-win”.
