This is a volunteer-run, ad-free site — nobody makes money from this. If you appreciate the ongoing effort that makes this site possible and you want to give back, here are ways you can help:
- Buy my books! FLAG map manager Tyler Tork is also an author of science fiction and fantasy stories for adults and YA. I like to think these are well worth the price just for the entertainment and enlightenment they deliver, but if gratitude for this resource moves you to want to read them, I will not argue with your reasons.
- Also please review my books on Amazon, Goodreads, or The Storygraph.
- Ask your local public library to order them.
- If you run a FLAG and have an Instagram account for it, tagging our Instagram account in your profile and/or posts will help spread word about the map and get us more followers. Suggested wording for profile: “Find more galleries like this on the @MapOfFlags.”
- Submit your FLAG story. We publish articles about people’s experiences starting, operating, and visiting FLAGs.
- Volunteer to help manage the map or the site (use the Contact form to write to me).
- Tell me about missing or incorrect FLAG listings. While I try to make this map as comprehensive as possible, there must be many FLAGs I don’t know about, and probably some listed here have moved or are no longer in operation. If you run across any errors or omissions, please use the online map update form to let me know. I also would like to get photos of galleries where the map entry doesn’t show a good photo, preferably with a little of the surroundings, to help people locate it. Oh, and signage. Like if the gallery has an online presence and that’s not reflected in the entry, I’d like the URL.
- Become a local Sidewalk Joy Map creator. While this site is laser-focused on galleries of the take art/leave art variety, every municipality has free attractions of other sorts to delight the aimless wanderer. Rubber duck exchanges, dinosaur dioramas, pocket sculpture gardens, free baked goods, wishing trees, quirky stores, are just a few of the things you will find on these maps. Do your town proud — let the world know what you’ve got!
- Mail me art to put in my own FLAG (find the address and other info here) for the appreciation of the gallery’s neighbors and Instagram followers. All contributions are documented on the gallery’s Instagram feed.
- If you donate money it will be used to cover expenses — website hosting, domain registration, art supply giveaways, and so on. Or to buy coffee to fuel my efforts.
