Part of an “Art Magnet” initiative that I hope sticks, the Operation ARTS Foundation has a project to create Free Little Art Galleries at various points around town, concentrating on high traffic areas.

One of these is at the Gateway Arts Center in Brentwood. More pictures here.

“Art M.A.G.N.E.T.” is a public art project created by Operation ARTS Foundation to encourage creative community interaction through art! This is a public art project created to showcase Maryland’s creatives through miniature art galleries placed among local established landmarks and parks throughout Maryland. During the global pandemic, galleries were forced to close their doors for the indefinite future. Inspired by Stacy Milrany’s “Free Little Art Gallery” in Washington State, our team is setting out to continue to bring art to our community. We envision placing tiny art galleries at high traffic points in our local community that display handmade art and tell stories about Maryland’s rich heritage. Each gallery will have signage stating our “Make Art, Take Art” policy to encourage others to create art and share their story. This project will bring beauty, education, culture, engagement, and tourism to the area. We hope to create four more locations for 2022 to install in different places throughout Prince George’s County and then scale our project to additional locations in Maryland in the future. If you are interested in having one of these free little art galleries installed contact us at teamoperationarts@gmail.com.

This project has been made possible in 2021 through the support of public art grants from Maryland Milestones/ATHA Inc. and PGAHC, as well as sponsorship from the Town of Edmonston and the Gateway Community Development Corporation!
